Mini conference Sept 20-21: Changing Practices of Higher Education Learning

The conference offers insights from higher education research and development on changes throughout different disciplinary fields. We present results on, and discuss implications for, student learning and teaching, innovative IT use, ways of enhancing student learning, staff training – the present challenges facing the practices of higher education learning.

Kurslitteratur i Högskolepedagogik - 8 juni!

Terminen avslutas med en diskussion om högskolepedagogisk kurslitteratur den 8 juni– se listan nedan. Vi har gjort ett urval av litteratur, och syftet är att jämföra och diskutera dessa, särskilt i relation till våra behörighetsgivande högskolepedagogiska kurser. Kollegieträffen sker i samarbete med Swednet väst, som är ett regionalt nätverk inom det svenska nätverket för pedagogisk utveckling inom högre utbildning, Swednet (se http://webnews.textalk.com/swednet).

Kunskapsformer, lärandemål och examination - 18 maj!

Den 18 maj kl 14:15-16 behandlar vi relationen mellan Kunskapsformer, lärandemål och examination. Kollegiet har ju tidigare tagit upp frågor kring Lärandemålsstyrd undervisning och begreppet "constructive alignment" - nu går vi in på hur vi kan relatera detta till examination och former för kunskap. Inte minst blir detta intressant i ljuset av Bolognaprocessen och den senaste tidens utvärderingsreformer inom svensk högre utbildning.

Invited speaker is Professor Frank Rennie, from Lews Castle College:

In this seminar I would like to explore the potential use of new technologies, particularly "Web 2.0" internet applications to provide a more rich and supportive learning environment. I think this is particularly targeted at adults in higher education. The flexibility and ease of access of these applications, and the links that can be made to repositories of knowledge seem to offer a new opportunity to place the student at the centre of the learning activities and support diverse paths towards the acquisition of skills and knowledge. This is not a presentation by me, but rather an opportunity to share experiences of this topic area.

Hur utvecklas den akademiska läraren? Kritiken mot Kugels idé om progression

1993 skrev Peter Kugel artikeln “How professors develop as as teachers”. Kugels idé – som fått ett visst genomslag och ofta misstas vara en empirisk studie – var att oerfarna lärare går från ett självfokus över till ett intresse för sitt eget ämne och därefter till studenter och studenters lärande. Trowler & Cooper (2002) och Norton et al. (2005) är några av de som kritiserat Kugels idé; Trowler & Cooper genom att diskutera dominerande användningar av teori och ideal kring progression; och Norton et al. genom att empiriskt studera samvariationen mellan lärares synsätt och intentioner. Kom och diskutera frågan –som mycket handlar om motiven för högskolepedagogisk utveckling och utbildning, och våra egna erfarenheter av att verka som lärare.

Vi fångar upp diskussionen om "Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education" genom Shirley Booths erfarenheter av ett nyligen avslutat Sverige-Sydafrikaprojekt och läser en studie av Andreson (2000), så här skriver Shirley Booth om vårt seminarietillfälle:

A research project funded in the VR Swedish Links programme in collaboration between Sweden and South Africa is nearing an end, and for me a discussion of its aims, its operation, and probable outcomes is timely. The project has the title “Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education: Its constitution and transformative potential”, and the body of the proposal is available for reading. The literature on SoTL is growing, both research on the concepts of the field (e.g. Boyer, Kreber, Trigwell & Shale, Trigwell, Martin, Benjamin and Prosser) and scholarly studies within the field (e.g. Healey, Olsson). There is, however, little of a critical nature, and I am suggesting a reading of Lee Andreson’s paper:
